MONSAL TRAIL

The Monsal Trail is an 8.5-mile traffic-free route for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through spectacular limestone dales and man-made tunnels, with amazing views from places like the Headstone Viaduct which users can travel over.

The trail connects Blackwell Mill in Chee Dale (to the north) Bakewell (to the south), with many access points along the route, which passes close to the villages of Great Longstone, Little Longstone, Cressbrook Mill, Litton Mill and Tideswell Dale.

The route follows the former intercity line linking Manchester with London, originally operated by Midland Railway; the line closed in 1968.

Hassop Station (Hassop, Bakewell, DE45 1NW) is a great place to access the Monsal Trail, where there is ample parking (fees apply to certain areas of the car park).

It is a short drive from our campsite to Hassop Station (around 15 minutes), which offers an extensive range of snacks, meals and drinks, along with a wide range of books, greetings cards, gifts and accessories for the home.
